White Petha Cucumber Juice - A Simple, Homemade Healthy Juice

Another quick to do juice, one can simply just chop a variety of veggies, blend in a mixie and your juice is ready. This recipe is an example of including a range of vegetables in your diet. Do try to get a fresh petha to combine with cucumber, curry leaves and ginger to create a healthylicious drink! In some households, the daily menu revolves around the same 4-5 vegetables as per the taste preference of the family members. Nature, however, provides ample variety be it fruit, vegetables, spices or nuts. In our transition journey, we explored and experimented with even the “unconventional” vegetables, white petha for instance! Whitepetha, also known aswhite pumpkin, is a very popular veggie down south, and is recommended by most naturopaths as a must-have when recovering from an illness.

Ingredients

  • White petha (Ash gourd / safed petha): One half
  • Cucumber: 2 medium size
  • Curry leaves from 4-5 strands (Or more per taste)
  • Ginger: 1 inch
  • Lemon juice (optional): 2 tsps

Method

  • Clean all the veggies in freshwater.
  • Peel and chop the white petha (ash gourd) into chunks.
  • Peel and chop cucumber into chunks.
  • Peel the outer skin of ginger and chop it into small pieces.
  • Mix all the above ingredients in a mixer and blend it nicely to smooth consistency.
  • Use a strainer and filter the juice to remove any bumps or seeds.
  • Add water for consistency.
  • Add 2-3 drops of lemon juice for taste (optional).

  • Vegetables, when consumed in raw form, are rich in fibre and water content, and are easy for your stomach to digest. They also help your body get the enzymes that otherwise get destroyed in the process of cooking.
  • Juices can be had in mid-morning or evenings too. While vegetables can be mixed with most food groups (except fruits) and during meals too, it’s best to have your juices before meals.
