Orange ginger juice is an incredibly refreshing and healthy way to start your day. This blend of orange with ginger gives a juice with mild to medium sweetness, with a little zing from ginger.

Orange is citrus fruit, which is practically omnipresent during the winter months. Orange juice combined with ginger juice is a potential contender to other detoxifying drinks that may lose out on taste factor! Yes, a tastier way to get rid of toxins. Taste bhi, health bhi!

Orange juice is a great hit with kids as well! But then packaged orange juices are full of refined sugar and preservatives. Here’s a homemade way to get the favourite drink with a little twist of ginger!

Ingredients

  • Oranges: 5-6 (peeled, deseeded and chopped into pieces)
  • Ginger: a small piece (peeled and grated into tiny pieces)
  • Black salt as required (optional)
  • Roasted cumin powder as required (optional)
  • Chaat masala as required (optional)
  • Honey: 1-2 tsps (to balance the spice arising out of ginger) (optional)
       

Method

  • Remove the seeds from the oranges
  • Blend the grated ginger, deseeded oranges finely in a blender
  • Strain the juice in a fine strainer; the pulp will get collected in the strainer
  • Squeeze the pulp or press the pulp with the back of a spoon to extract the juice contents
  • Discard the remaining pulp
  • Add 1-2 tsps of honey to increase the sweetness if desired
  • Serve in a glass plain with some ice cubes or with some black salt and roasted cumin powder
       

  • Eating Guide:

  • Food group: Fruits
  • Best time to eat: mornings as breakfast or first meal. Can also be offered as a summer cooler to kids just as they are back from school or play.
  • Orange, due to its high Vitamin C content, aids prevention of colds and coughs. Use only in-season oranges as they are juicier, sweet and have high nutritional value.
  • Remember to eat alone and not mixed with meals
