Peanuts are a great source of natural fats. Add a generous helping of peanuts in your diet to get all the good fats required by your body. This is a quick recipe to make spicy peanut butter. Spice up your meals!

Ingredients

  • Coriander seeds - 1 tbsp
  • Dried red chillies - 2-3
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tbsp
  • Curry leaves - 1 sprig
  • Flaxseeds - 1 tbsp
  • Peanuts - 1 cup (roasted)
  • Rock salt - 1-2 tbsp (or to taste)
  • Cold-pressed peanut oil - 1 - 2 tbsp (optional)

Method

  • On a low medium flame, dry roast the following - coriander seeds, red chillies, cumin seeds, curry leaves and flaxseeds. Roast until the chillies and curry leaves are crisp. This will take around 2 - 3 minutes. (You may choose to use little oil to roast)
  • Allow the roasted spices to cool down and then grind into a fine powder.
  • To the above spice mix, add the roasted peanuts (with skin) and salt. Blend again, until you get a fine paste and oil oozes out.
  • Give a mix to ensure that the ingredients get ground evenly
  • Store in an airtight jar in the fridge.

Eating Guide:

  • Food group: Legumes (Yes, peanuts belong to the legumes family, not nuts)
  • Can be combined with any food group (except fruits). Can be easily consumed with meals. Serve along with dosa or chilla or idli
  • Incorporate peanuts on regular basis, and say bye-bye to refined oil.
