Spiced Lemongrass tea

Lemongrass is an herb that is native to Sri Lanka and South India but now grows in many countries around the world. The plant's stalks are a common ingredient in Asian cooking, but it is also possible to brew lemongrass to make tea. It’s great to substitute this for a caffeinated beverage which comes with serious health consequences.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup choppedleaves of lemongrass cut into fine pieces ( the stem is tastier and juicier than the leaves)
  • 500 ml water
  • 1 inch grated ginger
  • 1/8 tsp crushed pepper
  • 1/2 tsp fennel seeds
  • 1 star anise
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • Sweetener optional (dates paste, raisin paste or maple syrup or anything natural or organic jaggery)

Method

  • Boil water for 5-6 mins till it reaches boiling temperature and switch off the gas. 
  • Add everything into the hot water to infuse except lemon and sweetener.
  • Leave for an hour
  • Strain and add lemon and sweetener as needed
  • Heat it and enjoy!

    Note :It’s ok to mildly heat even after lemon is added.
