Momos Chutney - quick-to-do without any additives or preservatives
Prep Time: 05 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Servings: 3-4 Servings

This is a hot and spicy tomato chilli garlic sauce, popularly known as momos chutney. Though it is commonly served with momos, it goes well with other snacks like non-fried pakoras or fritters. It practically takes just about 15 minutes to put it all together. It's not only a yummy addition to your snacks, it's a healthier option as it is free of any additives or preservatives too!

You could even pre-prepare and store it in your fridge and enjoy this lip-smacking condiment as and when required.

Ingredients

  • Tomatoes: 2 medium to large sized
  • Dry red chillies: 3 to 4 (halved and seeds removed)
  • Garlic: 1 tsp or 4 to 5 cloves (chopped)
  • Black pepper: ¼ tsp
  • Honey: ½ tsp
  • Rock salt as required
  • Water: 3 cups (for cooking tomatoes)

Method

  • Heat 3 cups water in a pan. Let it come to a boil. Add 2 large tomatoes, 3-4 dry red chillies to the water.
  • Boil the tomatoes on medium flame.
  • Cook for 10 min, strain the water and allow the tomatoes and the red chillies to cool down.
  • Slice off the top eye part of the tomatoes, roughly chop or crush them.
  • Blend the crushed tomatoes and its juices, red chillies, garlic, honey and black pepper into a fine smooth paste. Do not add water.
  • Remove the momos chutney into a bowl and serve with a snack of your choice. This chutney goes well with non-fried pakoras, fritters or tikkis/patties. You can even refrigerate the chutney and it stays good for about a week.
