Gongura is highly used green leafy vegetable chutney is a bit sour in taste and this is what makes the dish enjoy with hot steamed rice, Breakfast dishes too.

Gongura is an excellent source of folate and a very good source of vitamin B6.
Apart from this, it is a rich source of iron, vitamin C, anti-oxidants, calcium, iron, zinc and vitamin A.

Ingredients

  • 7-8 bunches of gongura leaves red stem/sorrel leaves

  • Cold-pressed oil: minimal.

  • Rock salt to taste

  • 2 tsp red chilli powder

  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder

  • 2 Red chillies

  • 1 medium size onion finely sliced

  • 2 tbsp coriander leaves

  • 1/2 cup water


Method

  • Firstly, take a cooking vessel or a pressure cooker.

  • Into it wash and add the gongura leaves, add salt, red chilli,turmeric powder

  • Also coriander leaves, chopped onion.

  • Add little oil, add little water(1/4th cup) and pressure cook until the leaves get soft or pressure cook for two whistles.

  • Reduce the steam, cool it and blend it into a paste or mash it well.

  • Healthy Gongura Chutney is ready to serve.
