Dhansak masala is a special spice mix powder from the Parsi cuisine. A combination of locally available whole spices, powdered into a flavorful mix. It is commonly used to prepare authentic Parsi delicacies. While you may find ready-to-use options of dhansak masala in your grocery store, but nothing beats the aroma of fresh spices blended at home. Plus it has the advantage of being preservative-free!


Ingredients

  • Coriander (Dhania) Seeds:250 grams
  • Dry Red Chillies:50 grams
  • Cloves:50 grams
  • Cardamom Pods/Seeds:25 grams
  • Cinnamon Stick:50 grams
  • Black cardamom:25 grams
  • Whole Black Peppercorns:25 grams
  • Bay leaf (tej patta):25 grams
  • Star anise:25 grams
  • Mustard seeds:25 grams
  • Poppy seeds:25 grams
  • Nutmeg powder:5 grams

Method

  1. Sun-dry all the whole spices to ensure there is no moisture remaining.
  2. Put all the spices together in a blender and blend into a smooth powder.
  3. Store in an air-tight jar and use as and when required.
