Dairy-Free Sewiyaan - Do your Desserts with Nut Milks!

Most milk-based desserts can be easily made with Coconut milk or Almond milk. Each adding a different but healthful flavor to the dish.

We have also replaced the refined white sugar with jaggery. The wheat vermicelli in the recipe is replaced by thin white rice noodles (this is upto you!). You may want to take baby steps towards health and simply focus on replacing milk & sugar.


Ingredients

  • Rice Sewiyaan (Rice noodles) : 2 cups
  • Almonds: 4-5
  • Gud/ Jaggery: ½ cup
  • Coconut milk (home made): 200 ml
  • Sabja seeds: 3 tsp (soaked)

Method

  • Soak the rice vermicelli in cold water for 8-10 minutes.
  • Take the coconut milk and warm it up.
  • Drain the water fromthe soaked rice vermicelli and add the vermicelli to the coconut milk. Keep cooking.
  • When the sewiyaan is cooked (takes about 5-7 minutes) add the soaked sabja seeds in coconut milk, mix the contents well and put off the gas.
  • Do not overheat.
  • Once you switch of the gas, let the mixture cool down a bit and then add jaggery (else there is a possibility of milk going bad)

Eating Guide:

  • Food group: Nuts & Grains
  • Best time to eat: As evening snack or after meals. Do not mix with fruit, can be combined with other food groups.
  • Great way to up natural oils and fats for kids.
