Black chana is you whole natural foods, nature's powerhouse which provides perfect body building material for growing kids. Why have kala chana only as a curry? Here is a simple healthful snack. Offer to kid's in lunch box or as evening time. Serve it with homemade green chutney or sugar-free imli chutney.

Ingredients

  • Kala chana (Black chikpeas): 1 cup(soaked overnight)
  • Potatoes: 2 Boiled / steamed
  • Dhaniya (Coriander leaves): ½ cup
  • Green chilli – 1 to 2 (to taste, finely chopped)
  • Ginger: 1 inch (grated)
  • Spices: Red chilli, coriander powder, amchur (mango) powder, ajwain (Carrom) ½ tsp each
  • Rock salt to taste

Method

  • Soak black chana overnight or for 6-8 hours.
  • Steam black channa.
  • Churn in a mixie with ginger and some green chilli. Add very little water if needed.
  • Add the above mix to steamed potatoes.
  • Mash the mix, add salt and spices. Taste test.
  • Make round, flat tikkis.
  • Take a flat pan. Rub some cold pressed oil. Place the tikkis. And cook well on both sides.
  • Alternately: Grill for 15 minutes to get crispy outer layer.
  • If you are in a hurry, use pressure cooker, but steaming retains the nutrition and enzymes of foods. Black chana cooks well when steamed.
  • Serve with Imli chutney and Green chutney.

  •  Food group: Beans

  • Beans can be easily combined with other food groups (except dairy and fruits).

  • Black channa is a whole food, and acts as bodybuilder so are great for growing toddlers.

  • Cooking them oil free ensures, there is a lower digestive load on our bodies to eliminate the harmful effects of refined oil.
