DIY Aroma Candles

Commercial candles are made with paraffin wax as it is the cheapest option available. This wax is made from petroleum as a by-product of making gasoline. Paraffin wax releases toxic fumes when burnt. The fumes give off toluene and benzene which are linked to asthma and lung cancer.

We will be using natural and safe bases- beeswax and soy wax for making candles in this workshop. Beeswax candles produce negative ions when burned and help neutralize pollutants in the air. This eliminates dust, odour & mold and helps in easing allergy and asthma symptoms. Soy wax is a natural, renewable resource. Soy wax is biodegradable and is natural and vegan. Soy wax has a lower melting point than paraffin wax and because of this, soy candles will burn slower or longer than paraffin candles. Soy wax burns with zero petro soot, creating petro soot free candles.

We will be doing container candles, as these don’t cause any mess while burning. The melted wax remains inside the container and lasts longer too.

We need glass jars for setting the candles, beeswax and soy wax, essential oils, wicks and a microwave for melting the waxes.  Optionally we can add some colours too, if we want candles in nice vibrant different colours.

Chemicals and toxic ingredients in commercial products may be the reason for triggering sensitivities. In this workshop, only natural ingredients are being used to make all the products. Moreover, you can specify the concern to the presenter and she will suggest some variations suited to your preference.
